More than 63% of physicians are already working in locum tenens or considering taking on a locum tenens role within the next five years, according to a report from Doximity.
The “Physician Compensation Report 2025” from Doximity surveyed nearly 1,200 physicians.
Here are five things to know about the report:
- More physicians are working in locum roles to supplement their income and increase their schedule flexibility.
- Just 14% of physicians have no interest in working in a locum tenens role, with 19% already working locums.
- Nearly half of physicians are considering taking on a locum tenens role within the next five years.
- About one-quarter of physicians are not considering a locum role, but are not opposed to it.
- Internal medicine, family medicine, and obstetrics and gynecology are the three most in-demand locum specialties.
