A federal judge sentenced a 76-year-old physician to 25 years in prison for the deaths of three patients who overdosed on pain medications he prescribed, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
The physician, Edward Neil Feldman, and his 66-year-old wife and office manager, Kim Feldman, were convicted during a February trial of financial conspiracy and of prescribing drugs out of the scope of ordinary practice, according to the report. Mr. Feldman has relinquished his medical license, according to the report.
Only Mr. Feldman was convicted in the deaths of three patients: Joey Mayes, 24; Ricky Gonzalez, 42; and Shannon Wren, 42, according to the report. Mr. Feldman operated the
Feldman Orthopedic and Wellness Center out of Pinellas Park., Fla., according to the report. Assistant U.S. Attorney Shauna Hale suggested the case focused on the deaths of Pinnellas County patients because the county’s medical examiner keeps thorough records, according to the report.
Mr. Feldman asked that the judge be merciful in sentencing his wife, because he is “responsible for putting her in this position,” he said, according to the report.
