Anesthesiologists continue to be featured in naloxone coverage
In June, a WebMD.com article featured an interview with Bonnie Milas, MD, a member of ASA’s Committee on Trauma and Emergency Preparedness, discussing the importance of expanded access to over-the-counter naloxone, after it received approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and increasing public awareness of the life-saving treatment against opioid overdoses. “Now that you can pull naloxone off the shelf right next to the Tylenol, it removes the stigma and makes it mainstream,” she told the outlet.
Later in June, Anesthesiology News published a commentary from Dr. Milas highlighting anesthesiologists’ role in tackling the opioid epidemic. “Anesthesiologists are uniquely positioned to lead and meet the increased need for public education and engagement in addressing opioid overdoses,” she said.
